180 Years of Oktoberfest Infographic
The Oktoberfest is known as the largest Volksfest (People's Fair) in the world. In 1999 there were six and a half million visitors to the 0.42 km field, which is bigger tawn 4 standard football pitches. 72% of the people are from Bavaria, 19% will be from the rest of Germany and the remaining 9% of visitors will come from the surrounding EU-countries and other non-European countries including the United States, Canada, Australia and East Asia. Celebrities to this year's festival include film star Samuel L. Jackson, who was photographed wearing a red velvet jacket, a blue and white checked shirt, grey shorts and long white stocks, the outfit worn by hard-working Bavarian men. Also in attendance was Usain Bolt, the 27yr old Jamaican sprinter and Olympic gold medallist. He swapped his Lycra for Lederhosen to join in with all things German but finished off the outfit with a pair of black and yellow running trainers.
